About Us

The Nova Scotia Association of Community Health Centers (NSACHC) supports the province’s Community Health Centers to improve the health and wellbeing of Nova Scotians and their communities.

We work collaboratively with provincial and local partners for health equity and improved access to health and social services. NSACHC and its members also work closely with the Canadian Association of Community Health Centers and other provincial CHC associations to advance efforts aimed at improving health and health care across Canada.

Community Health Centers are Nova Scotia’s original “Health Homes” and have been providing timely, accessible and people-centered primary care, health promotion and social services in various communities throughout Nova Scotia for over 40 years.

About the community vaccination promotion Nova Scotia:

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated significant social and health inequities across Canada, and data shows that rationalized populations, those living on low income, the homeless and those living in high-density housing as well as other marginalized groups have been hardest hit by the pandemic.

With the aim of working towards promoting equitable community health and wellbeing through quality primary health care, education and advocacy across Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia association of Community Health Centers (NSACHC) received 18-month funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)’s Immunization Partnership Fund (IPF) to implement the Community Vaccination Promotion – Nova Scotia (CVP-NS) project. This funding, from April 2021 to September 2022, recognizes the commitment, experience and services of NSACHC in addressing social determinants of health, working alongside with marginalized populations and/or groups, as well as their strong and trusted relationships with these communities.

The project aims to:

• Build capacity of Health Care Providers as vaccinators and vaccination promoters: ensuring Health Care Providers (HCP) have the tools, training and evidence-based information they need to promote and counsel individuals on the importance of COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines.
• Support Community-based COVID-19 Education, Promotion and Outreach: supporting stakeholders and partners in their efforts to improve demand for and access to vaccines. This includes developing or tailoring evidence-based strategies for key populations in Canada focused on improving knowledge about the importance of vaccination, building confident and trust in vaccines and addressing barriers to accessing vaccination services.

CVP-NS is part of a cross-Canada partnership with other national and provincial associations to improve and promote community capacity in building trust, confidence, uptake and access to COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.
